R.E.M. guitarist Peter Buck’s fifth annual Todos Santos Music Festival concluded its 2016 run on Saturday (Jan. 23) with a closing set from Death Cab for Cutie. Ben Gibbard and company marked the occasion with a cover of R.E.M.’s “Fall on Me” for which they were accompanied by Buck and Mike Mills. You can watch Death Cab’s rendition of the Lifes Rich Pageant single in the fan-shot video at the top of the page.

Buck founded the Baja California, Mexico-based festival in 2012 to benefit Palapa Society of Todos Santos, A.C. Buck helped open the 2016 installment of Todos Santos the previous weekend with several tributes to David Bowie. He covered “Jean Genie” and “Rebel Rebel” with Sleater-Kinney’s Corin Tucker, Led Zeppelin’s John Paul Jones, Scott McCaughey, Kurt Bloch, Bill Rieflin and Mills. Later, Buck joined Jeff Tweedy for a cover of “All the Young Dudes.” That all-star performance also included Mills, Tucker and members of the Jayhawks, the Old 97’s and the Minus 5. This year’s Todos Santos Music Festival lineup also boasted Joseph Arthur, Drive-By Truckers and more.

Death Cab for Cutie’s tour continues in February with a string of dates abroad. They’ll head to Canada in March before playing a handful of U.S. music festivals this summer. See their complete itinerary right here. Death Cab dropped their most recent album Kintsugi last year.
