What started as an expletive-filled onstage meltdown during Green Day's performance at the iHeart Radio Festival in Las Vegas back in September soon turned into much more, following reports that singer Billie Joe Armstrong had been shipped off to rehab to deal with undisclosed substance abuse issues in the wake of the gig.

It wasn't long before “sources close to the band” claimed bandmates Mike Dirnt and Tre Cool were part of an intervention that convinced Billie Joe that he needed to seek help, with one “Green Day insider” saying the singer "had been a loose cannon for a long time," and that it was "long past time when he should be getting some serious help.” Green Day also cancelled a high-profile tour in support of their ‘¡Uno!,’-‘¡Dos!’-‘¡Tre!’ album trilogy.
