"I just want to go back where I used to play with my friends when I was 13," Jesse Malin told the packed back room of the Niagara in Manhattan's Alphabet City on Thursday night (Oct. 10). "We were kids with a band we were put on the bill here."

Although it seemed like Malin was at home, the venue was a whole different place to him back in his childhood, as the bar was originally known as A7, dubbed the birthplace of the hardcore scene. "We came here because of the music," he explained between songs.

So in honor of the place he decided to do a series of concerts to pay homage to the place that gave him his start. Ursa Minor, Hollis Brown, the Young Things, and of course, Malin were on the bill for the first evening. Aside from performing his best known tunes, Malin debuted a few new tracks that will appear on an upcoming album, including 'I Got You,' 'Addicted' and 'I Stand True.' And if that wasn't enough for his fans, Malin ended the night with a cover of the Dead Boys' 'Sonic Reducer,' which pleasantly shocked the crowd.
