Watch a Bulldog Skateboarding in the Video for Dinosaur Jr.’s New Single, ‘Tiny’
On Aug. 5, indie legends Dinosaur Jr. will release their 11th album, Give a Glimpse of What Yer Not, their fourth record since they reunited in 2005 and first since 2012's I Bet on Sky. Today (June 20), they released the video for the first single, "Tiny," which features frontman J Mascis' bulldog, Beefy. We've embedded it above.
In a press release, director Laurie Collyer credits Dinosaur Jr. with being an inspiration on her in her youth. "Having come of age in the so-called grunge era I was always about not selling out, not buying in, staying true to my identity and living low," she says. "Being a freak in a freakscene was where I found home. This meant listening to the music of the moment at maximum volume – Dinosaur Jr. being in heavy rotation on the turntables of me and my people."
Collyer notes that the plot for the video was inspired by learning of J Mascis' love of both bulldogs and skateboarding. "When a friend of mine told me there was such a thing as skateboarding bulldogs," she adds, "I took it from there and came up with the idea for Tiny. J’s dog, sleeping outside his rehearsal room dreams up the perfect day with J. He wants to skate without falling down or crashing. He wants to skate with J. He waits patiently outside the roller derby for J to finish his gig. The rest is history. Enjoy 'Tiny'!"
Dinosaur Jr. are currently winding down a European tour. They will hit the U.S. beginning July 14 in Providence, R.I., and then play a week and a half's worth of shows as the opening act on Jane's Addiction's tour commemorating the 25th anniversary of Ritual de lo Habitual. After taking most of August off, they will return to the road on Sept. 7 in New Haven, Ct., and perform a month of dates across the country. You can see their itinerary here.
