Gotye’s ‘Somebody That I Used to Know’ Named Shazam’s All-Time Most Tagged Song
The honors just keep rolling in for Gotye's international smash crossover super hit 'Somebody That I Used to Know,' which has been lighting up the charts and racking up trophies on the awards circuit for months. The latest is a distinction unique to the digital realm: According to Shazam, the popular music identification app that lets users "tag" a song to find its title and artist, 'Somebody That I Used to Know' has racked up more than 10 million tags worldwide on its way to becoming the most searched for song of all time.
This announcement arrives just weeks after Gotye swept Australia's APRA Music Awards on the back of 'Somebody That I Used to Know,' and just over a month after the the song set a record by topping four Billboard charts in the same week. This goes without even mentioning the 23 countries in which it has reached No. 1 on the charts or the astounding 250 million YouTube views (and counting!) it has racked up.
It's also not the first notable feat associated with Shazam. 'Somebody That I Used to Know' recently was revealed to be the first song to reach more than one million tags in a single week, proving that somehow there are still plenty of people living on the planet Earth who are not yet familiar with the song. Or, more precisely, were not familiar -- we assume they are now. Think of it as Some Song That They Used to Not Know.
