Last year, Hiss Golden Messenger released The Lateness of Dancers, their utterly terrific fifth album, which was also their first with Merge Records. As they continue to tour in support of their latest effort, the folk-rock outfit – consisting of former members of the Bay Area’s the Court & Spark, MC Taylor and Scott Hirsch – visited WAMU’s Bandwidth in D.C. to perform a pair of songs.

First, check out the North Carolina-based fivesome’s performance of “Blue Country Mystic” from 2011’s Poor Moon in the video above, followed by “He Wrote the Book” (watch below via NPR) from Hiss Golden Messenger’s Southern Grammar EP, which arrived earlier this month.

Following their WAMU set, the band will continue their tour at the Bowery Ballroom in New York City on March 5. Head to their website to see a complete list of tour dates, which includes an appearance at this year’s SXSW Music Festival in Austin.

Back in November, Taylor, Hirsch and company made their television debut on the Late Show With David Letterman, performing The Lateness of Dancers track, “Southern Grammar.”
