On April 18, vinyl enthusiasts across the globe will gather together at local independent record shops to celebrate Record Store Day. Former Smiths guitarist Johnny Marr will partake in the celebrations with his very own -- and very special -- 7" single.

The A-side features Marr’s cover of Depeche Mode’s “I Feel You” (listen to it below), and it will be backed with a live version of the Smiths’ “Please, Please, Please, Let Me Get What I Want.”

Speaking with NME, Marr says about the Depeche Mode track, “I’ve surprised myself that it sounded so like me and my band. When you cover a song you have to bring something of yourself to it.”

He also opened up about how important he believes Record Store Day is to artists and fans. “It gives bands a chance to do something special,” he explained. “It’s nice to do a 45RPM on its own. It’s really important to me, and there aren’t many opportunities to do it these days.”

The official list of Record Store Day releases will be unveiled later today (March 10) at a press conference at Brooklyn’s Rough Trade. Follow @DiffuserFM on Twitter for live coverage of the event. In the meantime, listen to Marr's cover of "I Feel You" below:
