Liam Gallagher Names Blur’s ‘Lonesome Street’ Song of the Year
Maybe the ‘90s Battle of Britpop is truly over after all.
In a tweet today (May 4), Liam Gallagher named “Lonesome Street” from Blur’s brand-new comeback album, The Magic Whip, song of the year. Check it out below:
While Gallagher's Oasis and Blur may have been rivals when the media pitted their two 1995 albums -- Oasis’ (What’s the Story) Morning Glory? and Blur’s The Great Escape -- against each other, it appears Gallagher has buried the hatchet and given the Damon Albarn-led outfit some long overdue credit.
After making their first U.S. TV appearance in 15 years on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Blur brought their latest full-length to a free pop-up show in New York City last Friday (May 1). See Diffuser’s photos and review of the concert here.
Oasis may have their own reunion in the works, too. Despite Noel Gallagher claiming it would require “half a million” for him to team up with his brother once again, a source recently told The Daily Mirror that the brothers have come to a “gentlemen’s agreement” to reform Oasis. The news came shortly after Liam tweeted a photo from backstage at one of Noel’s recent solo gigs, stirring up reunion rumors among fans.
While Oasis dropped their last album seven years ago, Noel has had a productive solo career which saw the recent release of his second solo album, Chasing Yesterday. On the other hand, Liam’s band, Beady Eye, broke up back in October.
