Marilyn Manson Tests a Lover’s Loyalty with New Track, ‘KILL4ME’
A new Marilyn Manson single has been unearthed. Bitingly titled "KILL4ME," the song is the second single from his upcoming 10th album, Heaven Upside Down. The single comes on the heels of similarly threat-hinting first single, 'We Know Where You F—ing Live," unveiled last week.
Musically, the track evokes Manson's Antichrist Superstar era, the period at which he was at the height of his notoriety. And the song's lyrical themes don't suggest for a moment that the one-time bête noire of Capitol Hill has undergone a softening of heart. Summoning yesteryear's industrial metal formula, Manson introduces a danceable four-on-the-floor beat beneath diabolical guitar bends and dirtied bass propulsions. "Let's grab a gold switchblade / and make us a blood pact, babe," Manson begins, setting the opening scene of a blood-splattered vintage horror film.
It doesn't take long for Manson to cut to the chase: "Would you kill, kill, kill for me?," he inquires, as a gliding synth pattern animates the interrogative chorus. "I love you enough to ask you again."
At a Budapest concert back in July, Manson debuted four new songs, including 'We Know Where You F—ing Live," that had been purported to be included on Heaven Upside Down. The other three songs were "Revelation #12," "Say10," and "1 Degree," all of which have since been confirmed as Heaven Upside Down album tracks.
Heaven Upside Down is set for an October 6 release through Loma Vista Recordings/Caroline International. The Japanese edition will include a remix of "KILL4ME" by Dallas-based electronic group Mystery Skulls.
