Kids say the darnedest things, but not all of them suggest songs for their dad to record. Devon Sexton, the 16-year-old daughter of singer-songwriter Martin Sexton, told her dad he should do a version of 'Story of My Life,' the Top 10 smash of current boy band hit-makers, One Direction.

"My friend Hannah asked me if my dad is Martin Sexton," Devon recalls. "I said, yeah that's him. She said, 'Oh my god Harry Styles follows him!'"

(Don't worry, we didn't know who that was either, but one quick Google search and hey, Harry Styles is, of course, a member of One Direction.)

So Devon challenged her dad to do the song.

"When she dared me to learn the song, she played it for me and I thought, what a cool track, I could have some fun with this," Sexton explains. You can see his solo acoustic take below.

Aside from learning One Direction songs, Sexton is about to release a brand new album. 'Mixtape of the Open Road' hits the streets on Feb. 10 via KTR/Redeye. The album is described as "a mixtape of songs, but written and performed all by the same artist."

This is Sexton's ninth full-length release and first since the 'Fall Like Rain' EP in 2012. In addition, Sexton will be hitting the road for a very long stretch, kicking off Feb. 12 in Kentucky and winding up in June in Hartford, Connecticut.
