Neil Young Says Goodbye to Starbucks, Calls Out the Company In Blog Post
The legendary "godfather of grunge," Neil Young, has never been one to keep quiet when spotting social and environmental malfeasances. The latest target of Young's ire? Mega coffee and Taylor Swift CD pushers Starbucks.
"I used to line up and get my latte everyday, but yesterday was my last one," writes Young in a blog post titled "GOODBYE STARBUCKS!!!" on his site, Neil Young Times.
The Starbucks embargo began as a result of the company's support of a lawsuit brought about by Monsato against the state of Vermont. The suit is an effort to block a law that requires genetically-modified ingredients to be labeled.
As Young says, "There's much more at stake here than just whether GMO foods will be labeled in a single U.S. state. Vermont is the very first state in the U.S. to require labeling. Dozens of other states have said that they will follow this path -- in order to encourage this, we need to ensure that Vermont's law stands strong."
Young calls on his readers to support SumOfUs' campaign which helps to fund the counter defense against the challenge by Monsato and Starbucks. If you're interested, you can get details here. And to read his full farewell to Starbucks, head over to Young's official website.
