During a concert in São Paulo, Brazil, on Saturday (Nov. 14), Pearl Jam dedicated their performance of “Love Boat Captain” to those killed in the terrorist attacks in Paris the previous night.

Ahead of the song, Eddie Vedder read his dedication in Portuguese: “Our love goes out to all in Paris.” “Love Boat Captain,” which originally appeared on 2002’s Riot Act, was written in memory of nine people who died in a crush that took place during Pearl Jam’s set at the 2000 Roskilde Festival in Denmark.

Vedder altered the lyrics in tribute to the victims and those affected by the attacks in Paris. The original lyrics read, “Lost nine friends we’ll never know / Two years ago today,” however in São Paulo, Vedder sang, “Lost 90 friends we’ll never know / Oh, again today.”

The 90 figure reflects the 87 victims of the shooting at Le Bataclan concert venue during an Eagles of Death Metal concert. The citywide attacks took the lives of 129 people, injured 352 and left 99 in critical condition.
