Not long before his death in 2000, the legendary Roebuck Staples, better known as "Pops," began work on a new set of recordings. Those 1999 sessions were never completed due to the untimely death of Pops. Last year, his daughter, and legend in her own right, Mavis Staples, began to sort through those tapes.

And lucky for us she did! Judging from the preview here, it sounds like vintage Pops:

Wilco's Jeff Tweedy played bass, and co-produced the album with Mavis, while his son Spencer sat in on drums. (Tweedy also produced Mavis' two most recent albums.)

You can hear the album's first single, 'Somebody Was Watching' above. There is also a mini-documentary about the album you can check out below (via Pitchfork).

'Don’t Lose This' is set for release on Feb. 17 via dBpm/Anti.
