A couple weeks ago Ryan Adams announced a new singles series, with the first record coming out on July 1. But if you head on over to Direct Current, you can listen to 'Gimme Something Good' right now.

The song is a straightforward riff rocker, pretty much borrowed from the Stones' '70s playbook. And it's a welcome return to rock 'n' roll territory from Adams, who's strayed into softer singer-songwriter terrain on his past couple of albums.

The new seven-inch single -- which will be released on Adams' Paz-Am label -- also includes 'Aching for More.' This is Adams' first exclusive release on his label since 2012's 15-record 'Live After Deaf' set, which completely sold out in eight minutes.

Presumably, the new single series will unveil new records by Adams at regular intervals. He used to be a pretty prolific guy, so this might be a good way for him to get some of his one-off curios out there to fans.

'Gimme Something Good' may also show up on Adams' upcoming album, which is tentatively scheduled for Sept. 9 release. It doesn't have a title yet, but it looks like Glyn Johns, who helped Adams on some of his best work, is producing.

Adams also took time out of his schedule to film an ad for Fender, where he talks about how much he loves one of its amps. You can watch it below:
