This year's Hardly Strictly Bluegrass music festival kicked off on Friday, Oct. 3, and featured the likes of Conor Oberst, Dawes, Yo La Tengo and Ryan Adams. During the latter's set, the singer-songwriter "debuted" a brand-new song -- and you can check out fan-filmed footage of it in the video above.

If we had to guess, this new song won't ever be played again; it was improvised on the spot after Adams went through a round of "thank yous" to the crowd.

“Thank you for coming to the wrong concert, Mr. Black Flag t-shirt. Thank you guy who looks like Bob Weir that freaked out when we played a song that sounded like the Replacements, what the f---," he said. “Thank you also to the guy in the back who’s still holding his three f---ing balloons.”

It was that last acknowledgement that inspired the next song -- we'll just call it 'Three F---ing Balloons.' With lyrics like, “Didn’t think they would last this long / Are they full of helium” and “That’s not three balloons, f---, that’s four / I couldn’t count, that’s what glasses are for,” it was obvious Adams and his band, the Shining, were having a blast.

'Three F---ing Balloons' wasn't just a quick improv, either; the guys kept it going for nearly four minutes, and it even featured a face melter of a solo courtesy of Adams.

Hardly Strictly Bluegrass wraps up tonight (Oct. 5) with performances by Rising Appalachia, Rosanne Cash, the Lone Bellow and more. Check out the full schedule here.
