Someone Actually Made a Playable Tortilla Record

A while back, there was a comical video circulating the web depicting a tortilla spinning on a record player while "The Mexican Hat Dance" played in the background. Although the video went viral quickly – and it certainly looked delicious – the tortilla wasn't actually playing anything. Now Rapture Records has made that joke a reality by transforming a regular, everyday tortilla into a playable record. Watch some of the lasering process, as well as the finished product playing "The Mexican Hat Dance" below.

According to The Daily What, the creators tried it out with "Macarena" and "Puttin' On The Ritz" by Taco, but neither were as clear as the hat dance.

If you're interested in making your own, there are how-to instructions provided here. Just make sure you have a laser cutter and some audio editing software handy, aside from the obvious flour tortilla. If you're going to eat the thing afterwards, it may not be what you expect: “The tortillas are edible, but taste rather burnt where the laser has to work harder to slice apart the edges. Of course, cooking them removes the possibility of playing them.”
