Jennifer Diane Lewis started her entertainment career at a young age as an actor. As a child, she held many roles in different television shows and feature films. By 1998, though, she decided to move on to playing music. She and some friends formed Rilo Kiley and quickly gained popularity within the indie music scene. After releasing albums on indie labels Barsuk Records, Saddle Creek Records and their own Brute/Beaute Records, Rilo Kiley signed with Warner Bros. in 2004. That same year, fellow indie music star Conor Oberst invited Lewis to record and release her first solo record on his label, Team Love. The album, ‘Rabbit Fur Coat,’ along with her involvement with the Postal Service, set Lewis up to succeed on her own. So when Rilo Kiley called it quits in 2011, Lewis had already established herself as a musical force to be reckoned with. She released her second solo album, ‘Acid Tongue,’ in 2008. Since then, she’s released music written and recorded with her boyfriend, Johnathon Rice, as Jenny and Johnny. Her third solo album, ‘The Voyager,’ was five years in the making. Released in July 2014, the album touches on the breakup of Rilo Kiley, as well as her father’s death.
