The ubiquitous fun. hit ‘We Are Young’ (featuring Janelle Monáe) has been virtually inescapable this year, thanks in part to its appearance in the Chevy Sonic commercial that first aired during January's Super Bowl (and is still airing now). The music for the widely-seen ad was reportedly selected early in the production process -- and even before pairing it with the commercial's footage -- by Chevrolet and its ad agency, Goodby, Silverstein and Partners, who usually consider "hundreds of songs" before settling on a track for use in an ad.

"It's a beautiful song, with a number of different projections in that driving beat and very sweet melody," Chevrolet associate director Andrew Bancroft tells Billboard. Paired with all the visually striking images in the clip, it certainly makes for one memorable advertisement.

While fun. don't actually appear in the commercial, it does feature the Chicago alt-rock quartet OK Go stunt driving a Sonic in a segment called 'Sonic's First Music Video,' the professional skateboarder/MTV star Rob Dyrdek in 'Sonic's First Kickflip and other crazy stunts featuring the Sonic itself -- like skydiving and bungee jumping. You haven't really lived until you've seen an American-made late model compact car "jump" out of a plane at 10,000 feet and just go for it!

'We Are Young' has since become one of the biggest crossover hits of the year, topping the charts in more than a half-dozen countries around the world and Stateside reaching No. 1 on five Billboard tallies, including the Hot 100, Rock, Pop, Alternative and Adult Pop Songs charts. It's also spawned numerous Internet parody clips -- much to the annoyance of fun. themselves.
