According to a recent statement, Mickey Melchiondo – otherwise known as Dean Ween – is teaming up with Les Claypool, bassist for funk-metal mavens (and Mountain Jam 2013 performers) Primus, to star in a new reality series … about fishing. Who knew that these two artists shared a passion other than music?

They intend on merging music and sportsfishing in their upcoming comedy. “Part of the plan is to do music on the show and also create the soundtrack," explained the ex-Ween guitarist. The show will feature Melchiondo and Claypool’s venturing out on the water alongside various celebrity guests.

Melchiondo has been an avid fisherman for decades. A few years ago, while friend and former bandmate Aaron Freeman (aka Gene Ween) dealt with substance abuse issues, he obtained his Coast Guard captain’s license and bought a boat. He even went so far as to create an online series entitled 'Brownie Troop Fishing Show' to document his fishing trips.

The guitarist still enjoys fishing today – he even owns a charter boat in Belmar, N.J. – but Hurricane Sandy put a damper was put on his hobby. Following the storm, he cancelled all excursions until the spring, and last November, he organized a benefit concert to help raise money for a friend whose Jersey Shore home was destroyed in the hurricane.
