Newport, R.I.-based singer-songwriter Evan Pharmakis, who performs under the stage moniker Wind in Sails, has established himself on a catalog that deals in matters of dark and light. In fact, the struggle between the two manifests itself right in the titles of his releases so far -- his 2012 debut LP, Brighter Days, the 2013 Darker Nights EP and, most recently, his sophomore effort, Morning Light.

That dichotomy plays out in the songs themselves, too, but Pharmakis (formerly of post-hardcore outfit Vanna) always manages to find a silver lining. Such is the case for his latest Morning Light single, "Side By Side,” which has now received an accompanying music video that Diffuser is pleased to premiere. Although, as Pharmakis tells us, the song dwells on the stuff of broken hearts, he focuses on what was gained rather than lost.

“This song is about the sadder parts of love,” Pharmakis says. “It’s a culmination of all my past loves and my current one, sort of a collage of different memories. It’s young love, insecurity and loss, while never losing sight of the fact that you’ll always have a place in your heart for the people who played a part in your life.”

Pharmakis notes that “Side By Side” is a departure in style from his past efforts. “I’ve been experimenting with finger-picking and slap style, and this was my first song trying that out,” he says of the song’s recording. “It has a very personal and raw vibe to it.”

Morning Light arrived back in February on the Equal Vision Records imprint Headphone Music; you can grab it now over at iTunes.

If you’d like to catch Pharmakis live, he’s currently on tour with SayWeCanFly. Together, they have two more dates on the books. They’ll play a show in Chicago on Sept. 28 and then Columbus the following day. Get more information at Equal Vision’s website.
