Last month, Tracy Chapman joined the Late Show With David Letterman as the beloved musical guest and covered the classic Ben E. King tune, "Stand By Me." This song holds a special place in Letterman's heart as it was one of two tunes he used to sing to his son, Harry, as he put him to bed years ago.

Last night (May 7), Letterman was ecstatic to complete "the old musical one-two punch" as he invited First Aid Kit to the late-night TV stage for an unbelievably beautiful cover of Simon and Garfunkel's "America" -- the other song he'd sing to Harry. You can watch the performance in the video above.

Backed with a pianist and orchestra, Johanna and Klara Söderberg delivered a pristine interpretation of the classic folk duo's 1968 track. You can compare it to the original below:

Following their appearance on Letterman, First Aid Kit have a number of European shows scheduled through June and mid-July before they return to the states. You can find their full tour itinerary here.
