The Black Keys drummer Patrick Carney and his fiancee Michelle Branch are expecting their first child.

The pair first met at a 2015 Grammys party, after which they quickly began writing music together. They started dating while working on Branch's last album Hopeless Romantic, which Carney produced. The record was released in May, and the couple became engaged in July.

"Well, we were just about to send out Save The Dates for our wedding in May when we got this little surprise ❤️ wedding is postponed and Baby Carney is happening this summer!" Branch posted on Instagram, along with a video of her sonogram. "Patrick and I couldn’t be more excited! xx @officerpatrickcarney."

Branch first came to fame in 2001 with the hit single "Everywhere" off of The Spirit Room, before forming the short-lived country duo The Wreckers with friend Jessica Harp. Hopeless Romantic was her first solo release in 14 years, after both leaving her record label and divorcing her bassist husband Teddy Landau, with whom she shares her 12-year-old daughter, Owen.

Carney came up at about the same time, forming the Black Keys with frontman Dan Auerbach in 2001 and releasing their debut record The Big Come Up in 2002, and in 2009 formed the side project Drummer, wherein each member has played drums in another band; they released their debut Feel Good Together the same year. Carney, too, was divorcing his second wife Emily Ward when he met Branch.

Branch and her daughter moved to Nashville in June to live with Carney.

“I luckily have a very wonderful ex-husband, and I can say that, and I know a lot of people in my shoes can’t,” Branch told People. “He’s 19 years my senior. Everyone enters a relationship with the best of intentions, and we grew apart. Having our daughter together was really the balancing factor when everything was kind of coming to a close. “It was easy to focus on her and worry about how she felt and making it normal for her; it allowed us not to get too caught up in our own s---.

“[Landau] flew to Nashville and was at our house watching [Owen] when Patrick and I were working,” Branch says. “It’s like Modern Family."
