President Obama Names Kendrick Lamar’s ‘How Much a Dollar Cost?’ as His Song of 2015

Apparently, presidents aren’t exempt from the overwhelming task of whittling down 12 months worth of music into handful of songs and albums.

In an interview with People, President Obama was prompted to name his favorite book, movie and song of 2015. For the latter, Obama cited “How Much a Dollar Cost?” from Kendrick Lamar’s opus To Pimp a Butterfly (listen above). First Lady Michelle Obama, however, opted for Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars’ omnipresent “Uptown Funk.”

Despite Lamar reigning supreme over Obama’s year-end retrospective, the President did not include the Compton rapper in his ballyhooed summer Spotify playlists back in August. Those instead featured songs from Bob Dylan, Bob Marley, Coldplay, Brandi Carlile, Okkervil River, Florence and the Machine, Joni Mitchell, Leonard Cohen and Erykah Badu. The first snow may have already fallen, but you can still stream those playlists at the bottom of the page.

Lamar dropped To Pimp a Butterfly, his third album to date, back in March. We’re pretty into it, too; it’s sitting at No. 2 on our list of the 50 Best Albums of 2015.
