Pussy Riot Supported by Jesus on ‘South Park’
The imprisonment of Russian band Pussy Riot has been a hot news story as of late, so it’s no surprise that the issue was mentioned in a recent installment of ‘South Park.’ In the episode, which aired on Halloween, Jesus sports a ‘Free Pussy Riot’ t-shirt and shares his thoughts on the matter.
“Causes should not be worn on our wrists with a sneer. Let’s keep our causes where they belong, which is right here, on t-shirts. Free Pussy Riot!” Jesus declares in the video clip below, tearing at his robe to reveal his bold support of the feminist punk-rockers.
A multitude of well-known bands and artists have also shown their support for Pussy Riot’s cause, including Madonna, Green Day, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Bjork and Paul McCartney.
While one of the group’s members, Yekaterina Samutsevich, was freed from jail last month, her bandmates Nadezhda Tolokonnikova and Maria Alyokhina are still serving time in prison camps, where conditions are reported to be harsh. They are both sentenced until March 2014.
