Apparently Hole were more influential than Nirvana, and absolutely everyone was more influential than the Beatles.

NME has posted its list of the 100 Most Influential Artists and, although the reasoning behind the musicians ranked is detailed here, the choices definitely lend themselves to debate. The editors immediately disqualified the likes of the Beatles, Bob Dylan, the Rolling Stones and the Who because they "aren’t necessarily directly informing the music being made today." Meanwhile, David Bowie comes in at No. 2 just behind Radiohead, while Velvet Underground, Fleetwood Mac, Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath and the Stooges all find a home on the list.

There are other surprises throughout, but here are a few: Pioneering L.A. punk band the Gun Club are No. 7 -- above the Clash (No. 14) and Black Flag (No. 85) -- while the Sex Pistols are absent; Sufjan Stevens (No. 50) is higher than Stevie Wonder (No. 78); the Cure creep in at No. 99 while the XX are way up at No. 10; the Brian Jonestown Massacre (No. 39) and Tame Impala (No. 40) are apparently a hair more important than Led Zeppelin (No. 41); and, as mentioned above, Courtney Love and Hole (No. 21) are four spots more influential than Kurt Cobain and Nirvana (No. 25).

At the same time, there's no mention of Pearl Jam, Wilco, Talking Heads, Daft Punk or the Pixies. Here's the entire list:
