Paul Thomas Anderson is to movies what Radiohead are to music, so it shouldn't be all that surprising that the mysterious band have a previously unreleased song in PTA's semi-mysterious new movie, 'Inherent Vice.'

That's one of the few details Slate was able to reveal about the film starring Joaquin Phoenix after the initial screening for the press. The instrumental 'Spooks,' which Radiohead used to play in concert leading up to the release of 2006's 'In Rainbows,' is in the movie, which is based on the Thomas Pynchon novel of the same name.

Of course, Radiohead multi-instrumentalist Jonny Greenwood did compose the score for the film, just like he also did for 'There Will Be Blood' and 'The Master,' so he probably realized the surf-guitar of 'Spooks' would be a perfect fit for the dark comedy about the end of the '60s featuring Owen Wilson as a surf-rock saxophonist.

Check out footage of Radiohead performing the song below. 'Inherent Vice' will be released Dec. 12.
