It was 2009 when Soundgarden frontman Chris Cornell released his latest solo album – the much-maligned, Timbaland-produced Scream. Today (Aug. 12), Cornell shared "Nearly Forgot My Broken Heart," from his upcoming album Higher Truth, and it seems he's getting back to something closer to rock music on the acoustic track. Watch the lyric video below or download it here, via iTunes.

Higher Truth is set for release on Sept. 18 and was produced by Brendan O’Brien, who also worked on Soundgarden's 1994 album Superunknown, as well as with Pearl Jam and the Killers. He also announced a tour in support of the record that will run from September to November and spans much of North America. Check out his complete upcoming schedule at his website.

Cornell is also set to re-release his debut solo album, originally released in 1999 as Euphoria Morning, under the slightly modified title Euphoria Mourning on Friday, Aug. 14. He said of the name change in a press release, "The title has been restored to its original spelling. [The title] was changed before release after I listened to some bad advice."
