We already know that Jimmy Kimmel can make a pretty hilarious bit out of recruiting celebrities to read ‘Mean Tweets’ about themselves, so the next logical step was no doubt the unruly world of YouTube comments. For this endeavor, Kimmel enlisted the Decemberists to sing the comments in their signature indie-folk style.

Despite their ‘What a Terrible World, What a Beautiful World’ album arriving this past Tuesday (Jan. 20), Kimmel informed his audience that the band had just finished recording an album entirely made up of Youtube comments. The Portland outfit then sang messages found in the depths of comment sections on videos covering everything from Kim Kardashian’s alleged plastic surgery to President Obama’s recent State of the Union address.

The band concluded with a comment on a video of the 2005 commencement speech at MIT, which was simply a series of “borings.” Afterward, Kimmel worried aloud, “I have to admit, I’m not too sure how I feel about the band singing ‘boring’ five times in the middle of the monologue.”

No worries, the Decemberists’ untraditional musical guest performance was anything but. Watch it for yourself above -- and dare we say leave some comments to fuel their next album? Then, check out the band close out the show with their latest single, 'Make You Better,' below:
