The Killers Are Mitt Romney’s Favorite Band
We know that President Obama's musical taste ranges from Al Green to Bruce Springsteen to Jay-Z. So who does presumptive Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney rock out to? The list of his favorite bands includes the Beach Boys, Kenny Chesney and a modern rock act you might not expect.
"The Killers are one group I enjoy," Romney told Parade. That might have something to do with the fact that the Killers' frontman Brandon Flowers, like Romney, is a Mormon. Or maybe Romney feels a deep personal connection with the lyrics of 'Runaways' and 'Spaceman.'
Romney also mentioned the Eagles, Aerosmith and Toby Keith as acts he would like to have perform in his White House. Given the recent embarrassment for Republican vice presidential nominee Paul Ryan, who cited Rage Against the Machine as one of his favorite bands only to have Rage guitarist Tom Morello blast Ryan for being "the embodiment of the machine our music rages against," it's fair to ask whether the Killers would actually support Romney.
Romney acknowledged that they might not, saying, "These are not all Republicans, by the way. Some may turn us down."
The Killers are not particularly outspoken when it comes to political matters. They did perform at a fundraiser for Democratic Senator Harry Reid in 2010, but Reid is also a Mormon, so their support of the Nevada senator may have gone beyond party lines.
