Based in New York and comprised of sisters Monika and Karen Walker, The New Tarot flip alternative rock on its head with the powerful stories found in their irresistible songs. Today (Feb. 24), Diffuser is thrilled to debut an exclusive interview with the sisters where they chat about growing up, performing live and what's ahead in their future -- check it out in the video above.

"We're really more focused, even when we're writing songs, on how we can best tell the story right now," Monika explains about their songwriting process. She says that's one of the reasons why it's hard to pinpoint what musical category The New Tarot should be classified. "If the genre gets a little wavy because of that ... you kind of inhabit a character to tell that specific story and then maybe leave it behind. That's kind of the common thread for a lot of our music."

Monika and Karen also open up about their first live show at the Knitting Factory in Brooklyn -- "Being the one up on that stage was just really wild" -- as well as hint at their upcoming new music.

"This new material is bigger than we are," they say with a bit of bashfulness. They admit they're reinventing themselves, and they want to "make sure we can do our songs justice on stage."

During the interview, fans will get a taste of the experience of seeing The New Tarot live with shots from their Knitting Factory gig as well as a show at Arlene's Grocery strewn throughout.

As you wait for your chance to see The New Tarot in person -- and as we all anxiously await new music -- make sure to pick up their self-titled EP, which includes two tracks the sisters dive into in the interview ("Chain of Command" and "Makeup"). And you can always stay up-to-date with everything happening in their world at their official website.
