Coachella Unveils 2016 Sideshows Featuring the Arcs, M83, Courtney Barnett + More
Every year, Coachella draws thousands of fans and hundreds of acts to its festival grounds in Indio, Calif., for two weekends in April. In recent years, bands have scheduled sideshows in venues all over L.A. in the days surrounding the music festival. Coachella’s parent company Goldenvoice now refers to this time as its own mini-music festival dubbed Localchella, and the promoter has compiled all of the shows happening in 2016.
On April 14, Courtney Barnett will headline a show with Alvvays, while Silversun Pickups will play a gig with Foals. Concerts featuring Rhye, the Kills, the Pig Pink and L.A. Witch will take place on April 18. The next day, M83; Rancid; the 1975 and the Japanese House; James Bay; and Beach House will all play shows. April 20 boasts shows from Death Grips and Savages; Miike Snow; the Last Shadow Puppets; and Deerhunter with Unknown Mortal Orchestra. The following day will bring Matt & Kim; Ex Hex and Sheer Mag; and Grimes with Christine & the Queens and Tei Shi to L.A. Finally, on April 22, the Arcs will play a show with the Heavy. See Goldenvoice’s complete Localchella schedule below.
Coachella will take place from April 15-17 and 22-24. Many of the Localchella acts will also play the annual music festival, alongside headliners LCD Soundsystem, Guns N’ Roses and Calvin Harris. The 2016 lineup also includes Sufjan Stevens, Disclosure, CHVRCHES, Run the Jewels and more.
