Coheed and Cambria Announce ‘The Color Before the Sun’

Coheed and Cambria have announced they'll release their new album, The Color Before the Sun, on Oct. 9 via 300 Entertainment.

It marks the band’s very first album that isn’t based on the fictional universe of the Armory Wars, which has inspired each of their preceding seven albums since their 2002 debut, The Second Stage Turbine Blade.

“I kind of want people to know that Coheed can write that sort of record,” frontman Claudio Sanchez said in a press release. “I’ve always said in the past that there’s never been a limitation on the band. It makes no sense to me to draw a line in the sand and never cross it.”

The band has also shared the upcoming LP’s lead single, “You Got Spirit, Kid.” Take a listen to the new song below, which proclaims, “Nobody gives a f--k who you are.”

The Color Before the Sun is the band’s first new LP since their The Afterman double album, which included 2012’s Ascension and the following year’s Descension.

Coheed and Cambria will play two U.S. shows in Nashville and Atlanta on Aug. 8 and 9, respectively, before heading to Europe for a handful of dates. They’ll then return stateside later that month to play several festivals, including Riot Fest in Denver and Chicago and Fun Fun Fun Fest in Austin. Check out a complete list of stops below:
