5 Questions for … Mastodon’s Troy Sanders
Since 2000, Atlanta metal masters Mastodon have been pumping out one stellar album after another. They've just released their sixth, 'Once More 'Round the Sun,' another concept record filled with progressive twists and turns, including a seven-minute epic featuring Neurosis' Scott Kelly. "Whatever he would do, [we knew it would] be the best moment on the record," says bassist and singer Troy Sanders, who took some time out from his band's busy schedule -- Mastodon are getting ready for a handful of music fests around the world -- to answer five questions for us.
Since elephants outlived mastodons, aren’t they technically more badass?
Absolutely not. Do you consider the cockroach supreme? Longevity ought not be confused with technicality.
‘High Road’ is one of our favorite songs on the new album. But is it the best?
Was I nominated for the 2014 issue of People magazine for Sexiest Man Alive? [We'll save you the searching. The answer is no.]
What got you into metal?
The lure of long hair and tight jeans.
If ‘Once More ‘Round the Sun’ and your 2011 album ‘The Hunter’ went head-to-head in the ring, which would win?
With two heavyweights that could easily top the highest-grossing pay-per-view bout of all time, I would put my money on the new guy.
What’s the most metal breakfast cereal?
Liquor.
