Ryan Adams is always looking one, two and even three steps ahead in terms of his next project, so it's only natural that he’s already concocted big plans for both prequels and follow-ups to his Pax-Am 7”, 1984, which arrived last year. The singer teased the possibility of a 1983, 1985, 1986 and 1987 -- all inspired by the punk music of those years. But what exactly comes to mind when you think of 1989?

Apparently, for Adams -- and a small army of fans -- the answer is Taylor Swift.

While 1984 and a preview of 1985 drew from the wells of the Replacements and Hüsker Dü, 1989 will boast Adams' takes on the tunes from Swift’s latest chart-topping album. First up, Adams previewed his cover of 1989’s lead track, “Welcome to New York”:
