Silverchair frontman Daniel Johns took the stage at Triple J’s Beat the Drum music festival in Sydney this past Saturday (Jan. 16) and gave concertgoers a stunning rendition of Nirvana’s ‘Smells Like Teen Spirit.’ For the cover, Johns was on piano and accompanied by a harpist, transforming the song to the point where it was nearly unrecognizable until Kurt Cobain's chorus came in. Watch the performance in the video above.

Prior to his Beat the Drum set, Johns hinted at new music via Facebook on Friday, Jan. 15. Simply captioning the post, “NEWS!”, it included a picture of what looks like cover art for new material. Titled ‘Aerial Love’ and given the date Jan. 29, fans are guessing that Johns may be planning on dropping a solo album. Stay tuned -- we’ll just have to wait and hedge our bets until then:

In the meantime, though, you can grab Silverchair's 'Neon Ballroom' on fresh new vinyl. The band is releasing a reissue of their third album, arriving more than 15 years after its original release in 1999. You can pre-order it here.
