Top 40 Songs – August 2012

Diffuser.fm's Top 40 Songs of August 2012 chart leads with Of Monsters and Men, who continue their impressive run from virtual unknowns outside of their native Iceland to indie rock hotshots, thanks to the breakthrough hit ‘Little Talks.’ The track -- the first single off their debut album, this year's 'My Head Is an Animal' -- also recently topped the Billboard Alternative Songs tally, and has even crossed over to the Hot 100 chart, where it hit No. 59.

Elsewhere, Muse climb to No. 2 with 'Survival,' the first single off their forthcoming 'The 2nd Law' album. The track is also the official song of the London 2012 Summer Olympics, which certainly isn't hurting its cause. Dave Matthews Band have returned to form with 'Mercy,' the superb first single off their 'Away from the World' disc. And Fiona Apple seems to be sticking around with 'Every Single Night' from that album with the title that's too long to type.

New additions to this month's chart include the xx's 'Angels,' No Doubt's comeback single 'Settle Down,' the epic Killers track 'Runaways,' Menomena's 'Heavy Is as Heavy Does' and Bloc Party's wild 'Octopus.'
