Animal Collective's new 'Applesauce' video "is intended to be viewed in complete darkness for maximum effect," reads a press release from the band -- and doing so actually creates a pretty stunning visual effect worth checking out. On the other hand, watching the clip in the plain daylight is pretty damn unimpressive, to be completely honest.

The 'Applesauce' video was helmed by Gaspar Noe, the Argentine filmmaker who is best known for his thrillers 'I Stand Alone' and 'Irreversible.' More recently, he directed Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds' meditative 'We No Who U R' video, which also would benefit from viewing in the darkness (but for different reasons). 'Applesauce' is the latest single off AC's 'Centipede Hz' album, which dropped last year.
