Mew guitarist Bo Madsen has parted ways with the band.

The Danish alt-rockers released a statement earlier today (July 2) addressing Madsen’s departure and announcing that the remaining members of the band -- frontman Jonas Bjerre, bassist Johan Wohlert and drummer Silas Utke Graae Jørgensen -- would continue on without their former bandmate. Likewise, they revealed that guitarist Mads Wegner would take Madsen’s place on their upcoming tour. Read the complete statement below:

After 20 years playing together in Mew, the band and Bo Madsen have decided to part ways for the time being.

At present the rest of us will continue with Mew.

We are happy to tell you that guitarist Mads Wegner will be joining us on our upcoming shows, and we look forward to seeing you all out there.

Thank you for your understanding and support,

Jonas, Johan and Silas

Wegner will join the remaining members of Mew on tour when they make their way to the U.S. on Sept. 17 in San Diego. The North American leg of their tour includes dates scheduled through October, culminating with a show in Boston on Oct. 11. Check out a complete list of their upcoming concerts on the band’s website.

Mew just released +-, their sixth album to date, back in April. They also recently debuted a music video for album single, “The Night Believer,” which can be seen below.
