During a recent concert in Covington, Ky. this past Saturday (Jan. 31), Sturgill Simpson stopped mid-song to break up a fight in the audience.

While playing ‘Sometimes Wine’ – a song from his days as the frontman for his bluegrass outfit Sunday Valley – the country singer-songwriter spotted a fight in the crowd and quickly brought the song to a halt, saying, “Come on now. Everyone came to have a good time. It doesn’t matter who started it; all that matters is that it’s over.”

The fight dissipated, and Simpson’s efforts were met by cheers from the rest of the crowd.

“One asshole at a time,” the singer added before he and his band picked up ‘Sometimes Wine’ right where they left off.

You can see the whole incident unfold in the video above; Simpson stops the song short right around the 1:00 mark.

Simpson recently signed to Atlantic Records for his next and third solo album, which will follow his 2014 LP, ‘Metamodern Sounds in Country Music.’
