The last time Sturgill Simpson visited Conan, he received a whole lot of hate mail from viewers who objected to his singing the word “goddamn” during his performance of “Living the Dream” back in September. Simpson returned -- certainly no worse for the wear -- last night (April 13) and gave a stirring rendition of another Metamodern Sounds in Country Music track, “Just Let Go.” Check it out above.

After closing out the song, which was complete with Simpson’s backing band and a string section, Conan said what we were all thinking: “He’s the real deal.”

Metamodern Sounds -- Simpson’s second album to date -- arrived last year via the singer’s own High Top Mountain Records. Earlier this year, Simpson revealed he signed with Atlantic for his next record, which is currently in the works.

The country singer-songwriter just wrapped up his first set at this year’s Coachella. He’ll return to Indio, Calif., next weekend for the festival’s second and final 2015 installment. Afterward, Simpson has a handful of dates scheduled across the West Coast, plus an appearance at New Orleans’ Jazz & Heritage Festival. Check out a complete list of his upcoming dates here.
