Mac DeMarco often falls prey to the “birthday blues,” but this year he combatted his annual slump by investing in a rowboat. NPR has now shared a video of DeMarco performing “No Other Heart” in his brand-new boat -- check it out above.

“I always kinda get the birthday blues,” DeMarco says in the video, “so instead of seeing anyone or even calling my family, I just drove to upstate New York to Wappinger Falls and bought this boat off this old guy instead. And then I took it for a nighttime cruise and went to bed, and that was the birthday this year.”

As DeMarco’s boat wades in the bay of the singer’s newly adopted hometown of Far Rockaway, Queens, the singer plays his crooner-esque tune with nothing but a keyboard in his lap. The song appears on DeMarco’s mini-album, Another One, which arrived last week following his 2014 full-length, Salad Days.

In addition to the newly minted Another One, DeMarco also recently shared a cover of Eric Clapton’s “Change the World,” which appears on the The Editorial Magazine’s compilation, Editorial & Friends 001.
