The Libertines have been working on a new record, their first since their 2004 self-titled sophomore album, and last night (June 19), the band shared the first fruit of their labors. During their set at the Best Kept Secret Festival in the Netherlands, singer Pete Doherty addressed the crowd and said, "I said we should play some new songs, but they said we shouldn't play any 'til the album comes out. We're going to give you one, but it's got to be a secret. Put your phones off and we'll see how it turns out."

Clearly, not all phones were disabled as requested, so check out some fan-shot footage of the new song, reportedly titled "Gunga Gin," below.

The Libertines announced in December 2014 that they had signed with Virgin EMI and were planning on releasing a new record. Following a couple successful reunion gigs last summer, co-frontman Carl Barat said, "Next year, it has to be. I don't wanna just go on the road because then you'll get cabin fever and have an epic fallout. So yeah, I want to keep something fresh coming in. We just need to find the time."

Although no release date has yet been established for The Libertines' third record, it seems likely it will be out sooner rather than later.
