Nintendo Switch’s Super Bowl Ad Uses Imagine Dragons’ New Song, ‘Believer’
Nintendo is set to debut its new gaming device, Switch, on March 3, and they've created a high-profile campaign with a commercial that uses Imagine Dragons' new song, "Believer." You can watch the extended cut above.
A 30-second version of the clip will air during the fourth quarter of this Sunday's Super Bowl. "The fourth quarter is traditionally the highest rated quarter of the Super Bowl," Nicholas Chavez of Nintendo told USA Today, "so we're very excited about our placement."
This marks the first time Nintendo have shelled out the requisite big bucks for the National Football League's championship game, but, as Chavez noted, it was necessary. "There's no bigger stage than the Super Bowl," he said. "Just as Switch will change the way people play video games, in terms of changing how when and where we play, we thought it was only fitting we change how where and when we advertise those games."
The ad shows off the versatility of the Switch, easily moving from hand-held to the functionality of a more traditional console and a Wii. The games shown include the latest installment in their Legend of Zelda series, Breath of the Wild, ARMS, 1-2 Switch, Just Dance 2017, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Splatoon 2, Ultra Street Fighter and The Final Challengers. A Super Mario title is expected to arrive at Christmastime.
"Believer" is the first new song from Imagine Dragons since their second album, Smoke + Mirrors arrived in 2015. It's unknown if "Believer" is from an upcoming record. You can listen to it in its entirety below.
