Ryan Adams Transforms Taylor Swift’s ‘Shake It Off’ Into a Dark Piano Ballad
Very early this morning (Aug. 19), Ryan Adams shared a second preview of his rendition of Taylor Swift’s “Shake It Off,” yet another piece in his 1989 covers album, which is quickly taking shape. Like all of the clips Adams has shared thus far, “Shake It Off” is just as much a transformation of the original as its predecessors. Listen below:
As Adams notes in his tweet, he enlisted Nate Walcott -- who’s worked with the likes of Conor Oberst and M. Ward -- to play piano on the track.
By our count, there are only four more 1989 songs that Adams hasn’t covered (or at least he hasn’t shared excerpts on his socials yet). With the majority of the songs and a rough mix under his belt, Adams is well on his way to wrapping up his latest project.
Previously, Adams previewed his covers of “Style,” “Blank Space,” “Wildest Dreams,” “Bad Blood,” “All You Had to Do Was Stay,” “Out of the Woods,” “Welcome to New York” and “I Know Places.”
