Is it just me, or did Billie Joe Armstrong look cooler with blonde hair?

Today's Throwback Thursday comes from a simpler time in pop punk mavens Green Day's history. Their third album, Dookie, was a smash hit, and they were on their way to the top.

So, Green Day stopped by Late Show With David Letterman back in 1994 to play a bit of extra-loud punk rock. They performed a little tune they called "Basket Case," an upbeat number about living a joyful life full of contentment and stability. Nah, I'm just kidding. It's about being a nut job on drugs. (But really, that's much more interesting than a rock song about how cool life is, right?)

Green Day, of course, would become one of the biggest rock bands in the world while injecting some new life into punk rock in the 21st century. From hitting Broadway with their American Idiot musical to being inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame this year, those California boys did okay for themselves.

And hopefully, they'll continue making waves in 2015: Could a new album be on the horizon?
