The Strokes’ Julian Casablancas Covers the Velvet Underground’s ‘Venus in Furs’ for HBO’s ‘Vinyl’
Julian Casablancas has delivered not one, not two, but three Velvet Underground covers for the first season of HBO’s new drama Vinyl, and today (April 15), you can hear the Strokes leader’s take on “Venus in Furs.”
Previously, Casablancas tackled “Run Run Run” and “White Light/White Heat” for the Martin Scorsese and Mick Jagger-helmed show. He completes the trifecta with the 1967 Velvet Underground & Nico song, which you can hear below. Needles to say, Casablancas has his Lou Reed impression down pat.
Casablancas’ “Venus in Furs” appears on the show’s first-season roundup compilation, Vinyl: Music From the HBO Original Series – The Essentials: Best of Season 1, which is out as of today. The soundtrack also boasts contributions from Iggy Pop, Charli XCX, the Arcs and Chris Cornell. You can stream it full on Spotify.
Vinyl’s season finale airs on HBO on Sunday, April 17, at 9PM EST.
